NBC has been in search of a new host for their marquee show America’s Got Talent ever since Nick Cannon abruptly announced his resignation on social media last month. After some good-natured ribbing from the former host, the show has finally gotten their replacement. Howie Mandel announced on Twitter last evening that Tyra Banks would be taking over hosting duties for the show.
Tyra Banks will have to fill the shoes of a host who had been on the show for nearly a decade, as Cannon first began on America’s Got Talent in 2009. She has some prior experience as the host of America’s Next Top Model for its 22 season. Read Tyra Banks’ statement below:
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible. I love how ‘AGT’ brings that feeling into everyone’s home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true. I look forward to connecting with the dreamers, having fun and giving hugs and words of encouragement when needed. And maybe I’ll get one or two performers to smize for the audience!”
Simon Cowell is another new addition to the show’s judging panel. Auditions for season 12 are now open, and the series will most likely begin airing soon.
