Music streaming has surpassed iTunes and physical album sales as the primary way in which listeners consume music. Spotify and Apple Music have emerged as the two titans of the streaming wars, while an assortment of other platforms jockey for third position, or any semblance of a market share.
In the past two months, Pandora announced its intention to launch a $10/month premium streaming platform this year to match their $5/month 'Pandora Plus'; TIDAL announced a partnership with Sprint offering free access to all Sprint users; and SoundCloud introduced a $4.99/month tier.
