Recently two of the most prominent rappers of the new generation, Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert, chopped it up together for an impromptu interview with V Files. Although Uzi has cemented his position and his style in the rap game by releasing plenty of music, Carti, not so much. The ASAP Mob-approved rapper definitely has a distinct mumble rap style down, but his musical output has been scarce, leading fans to hang on any tidbit of information regarding his long-awaited mixtape.
Thus, Playboi Carti's comparison of himself as the Jay Electronica of mumble rap doesn't seem to far off, if only for the anticipation of music and the lack thereof. Uzi Vert discusses the merits of mumble rap in the casual sit-down, telling V Files of his style: "A whole bunch of ‘ayes’ and a whole bunch of ‘yeahs.’ That’s it." He continued, poking fun at his own style, "That's all I do. I say yeah. I tell myself that I’m not gon’ go over 80. I say like 79 yeahs and it works. We what you call a mumble rappers. So you say yeah after everything and make it rhyme no matter what it is."
As for Carti's mixtape, he says, "Honestly yo, I didn’t come in the game trying to make a mixtape. My mixtape too fire. I just been listening to other dude’s tapes and shit."
