Remy Ma's "ShETHER" has proved the diss track is a timeless practice.

Disses in rap may be more subliminal than ever, but once in a while, a good old-fashioned diss track does still get made. The tradition is almost as old as the genre itself, as we've seen many of the biggest names in hip-hop feel the need to check an opponent on record. Jay Z and Nas' beef, which spawned two of the most iconic diss tracks of all time in "Ether" and "Takeover," remains the most publicized feud of its type. It also included "Super Ugly," which set the bar for taking things entirely too far, inspiring an apology from Jay Z after his mother disapproved of his over-sharing verse.

The most recent diss track to inspire conversation and debate among hip-hop fans is Remy Ma's "ShETHER," which takes inspiration in name and instrumental from Nas' track, and like "Super Ugly," gets ruthlessly personal.

We've seen many diss tracks before and after Jay Z and Nas' battles, and there are far too many great ones to highlight. We've come up with a list of some of the most classic disses, as well as a few more recent ones for good measure. Vote on them below and let us know who had the best diss in the comments below, on or off our poll.
