Former NFL corner back Will Allen was just sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in a $37 million ponzi scheme that left all of his investors out of a ton of money.
According to reports, several of Will Allen's victims were former pro athletes themselves.
Prosecutors were originally aiming for a 78-month sentence but they'll have to settle for the 72-month bid that the judge handed down today.
Allen and Susan Daub, a former banker, received loans from investors who believe they would be used as loans for athletes. However, only $22 million of the $35 million the duo collected was ever actually paid, and prosecutors sought the remaining $16.8 million.
According to Jeff Ostrowski of the Palm Beach Post, Allen pleaded guilty to "defrauding investors by raising cash for phony loans to professional athletes."
Allen, now 38 years old, was originally selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2001 draft. He played his first five seasons in NY before heading to Miami for another five and ultimately retiring after one year with the Patriots in the 2012 season.
