"How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet?"

While Samuel L. Jackson’s role in Marvel’s extended universe may not be as large as most of the other characters, he’s arguably one of the most important. It was Jackson’s Nick Fury character who first uttered the word “Avengers” during the first Iron Man’s post-credits scene. In a recent interview, Jackson expressed his frustration that his Nick Fury character would not be appearing in the upcoming Black Panther movie.

This is the first time Jackson has had really anything to say about which movies his character should appear in, and the reasons are racially-motivated. In an interview with We Got This Covered, Jackson recalled a conversation with Marvel where he asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?”

Marvel’s response was simply, “Nick Fury is not in Wakanda,” the fictional home country of Black Panther where the film will take place. Still, Jackson says he doesn’t understand, asking rhetorically, “how can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work?”

Fans of the Black Panther comics will be inclined to side with Marvel here, because Nick Fury was busy doing other stuff during the time Black Panther will take place, but we still appreciate Jackson’s furor in fighting for what he thinks is right.

In the same interview, Samuel L. Jackson says he may appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, and that he is down to star in a solo Nick Fury film. We’d definitely watch it.
