Not a great start to the New York Jets offseason. Last night Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis was official charged with numerous felonies and a misdemeanor after being sought for those crimes by Pittsburgh police. They have apparently been unable to locate Revis for questioning, which led to the charges.
Pittsburgh police have charged Darrelle Revis with two felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of robbery, one felony count of conspiracy and one misdemeanor count of terroristic threats. According to ESPN, Revis and two men, 21 and 22, were involved in an altercation at 2:43am ET on Sunday in Pittsburgh that left both men unconscious. The two mens’ accounts suggest that Revis began arguing with them after one started filming him on a phone, at which point Revis took the phone and threw it in the street. It’s unclear at which point Revis punched the men.
Revis has reportedly spoken to Jets officials already, but has not turned himself in. His lawyer paints a much different picture of the situation, saying the Jets defensive back was assaulted by a group of five people while looking at a real estate property. He concludes that “Darrelle Revis was the victim in all of this.”
We’ll have to see how this shakes out, but given his less than stellar play last season, Darrelle Revis may be on his way out of the New York Jets organization.
