Costas passes the torch.

Bob Costas has been the voice of NBC's Olympic coverage since 1992 but today the network announced that Costas is passing the torch to Mike Tirico.

Tirico will reportedly take over as NBC's primetime host of the Winter Olympics from PyeongChang next year.

Costas released the following statement regarding his decision to step down after hosting a record 11 Olympics.

Per CNN:

"It has been both a privilege and an incredible personal and professional experience to have been part of NBC's Olympic coverage all these years," Costas said in a statement. "It's been a wonderful run, but I just felt now was the right time to step away and I'm grateful that NBC left that decision to me."

Tirico is a more than worthy replacement for Costas having joined NBC last year after a 25-year run with ESPN, and having hosted NBC's daytime Olympic coverage of the Rio Olympics last summer.
