Mischa Barton, the 31-year-old actress who rose to fame as Marissa Cooper on the mid-'00s teen drama The O.C., was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation yesterday after displaying some bizarre behavior in the backyard of her West Hollywood apartment.
According to TMZ, she was hanging over her backyard fence while babbling away in a concerning manner, and the website obtained pictures that seem to show her acting in this way. In any case, the photos portray her in a state of distress. At the time, she was dressed in nothing but a dress shirt and a tie.
Neighbors reportedly heard her speaking about her mother being a witch and about the world coming to an end. At one point, she fell backwards and exclaimed, "Oh my God, it's over! I feel it, and it's angry!" a source told TMZ. "She was speaking incoherently but agreed to go to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center," Sgt. Enrique Mandujan of the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department told USA Today.
In response to a call about Barton's worrying conduct, police came to the scene along with firefighters as well as ambulances, prepared for a situation perhaps involving a suicide attempt or a drug overdose. Though she was apparently incoherent when she was put into the ambulance, police suggest that she was hospitalized voluntarily.
In 2009, Barton suffered a "full-on breakdown" and was involuntarily placed under psychiatric evaluation for four days, as she admitted to People.
