Georgia State University once had a poetry class that utilized Kanye West's work in its curriculum in 2015 and in 2014 University of Missouri offered a course that focused on the relationship between West and Jay-Z.
Now Washington University in St. Louis has joined the exclusive club of universities that have offered courses focusing on the creative genius of Kanye West, with their new class, "Politics Of Kanye West: Black Genius And Sonic Aesthetics." The course started last week and already has a hefty waiting list in addition to the 75 students who are currently enrolled.
Jeffrey McCune works in the African American Studies department at the school and will lead the course that he claims will offer students a unique way to discuss issues of politics, race, gender and culture. McCune says that he "aways wanted to teach a course looking at black genius and the impossibility of black genius for the American public."
