New York's in the building, baby. For the first time that I can remember, our Top Ten this week is half made up of songs by or featuring New Yorkers. It's happened multiple times before with Atlanta and Toronto, but never hip hop's onetime undisputed capitol. This week, it's mostly because of the veterans, people who are on their second or third go-round but went in on big collabs or nostalgic sounds. ATL, Chicago, and Toronto still hold their own here though.
For the first time in a few months, there's only one artist with repeat appearances in a Top Ten, and this time it's Migos. New tracks barely missing out on a spot include Trey Songz and Dave East's "93 Unleaded" (#12), PnB Rock and Ty Dolla Sign's "Hanging Up My Jersey" (#16), August Alsina's "Drugs" (#17), and August Alsina (again) with "Wait" (#18).
10. Lil Bibby Feat. Kevin Gates, Dej Loaf & Lil Durk - You Ain't Gang (Remix)
The long-awaited remix to Lil Bibby's 2016 hit "You Ain't Gang" finally arrived last week, with fellow Chicagoan Lil Durk, Detroit's Dej Loaf, and Louisiana's Kevin Gates on as guests. No word yet on whether this will appear on Bibby's upcoming album FC3: The Epilogue, but it'll garner excitement for the release regardless. The "You Ain't Gang" remix debuts at #10.
9. Migos - Call Casting
Migos originally shared Culture cut "Call Casting" via a video released back on January 2nd, but just days after their newer album cut "T-Shirt" ripped a hole in the internet, they decided to upload the former track to Soundcloud. The presence of "T-Shirt" didn't seem to take any of its shine though, because with just two days of eligibility, "Call Casting" debuts at #9.
8. Dave East Feat. G Herbo & Don Q - No Hook
With a spot on the XXL Freshman cover last year, Dave East has seen his profile rise in the past year, but he's still not a guy who consistently makes our Top Ten (personally, I don't think I've ever seen him in here as a lead artist). Flawless bars, a hot beat, and crucial appearances from G Herbo and Don Q ensure that "No Hook" avoids the fate of most of his tracks. This one makes its debut at #8.
7. DJ Drama Feat. Lil Wayne - Intro
Clearly, the people want more Wayne, preferably of this quality. This intro track from DJ Drama's Quality Street Music 2 began its run on our charts as quite the underdog, failing to make the top ten until about a month ago, but since then it's been cooking. In its 26th week out, "Intro" is up three spots from #10 to #7.
6. Fabolous & Jadakiss Feat. Tory Lanez - Rapture (Prod. By Vinylz & Cam O'Bi)
Two of NY's most respected spitters are gearing up to release their long-rumored Freddy Vs. Jason project, and they couldn't have done much better for a lead single. "Rapture" pairs an immaculate Tory Lanez hook with a plush-ass beat from Vinylz and SaveMoney affiliate Cam O'Bi... oh yeah, and two top-notch verses from Loso and 'Kiss. "Rapture" debuts at #6.
5. DMX Feat. Swizz Beatz - Bain Is Back
Although DMX and Swizz may have misspelled Bane and basically recreated Jadakiss' "Jason" for their new track, it's hard to deny how crazy it feels that X is in our Top Ten. We've been waiting on a comeback album executive produced by Swizzy for quite some time, and who knows, maybe "Bain Is Back" will be enough of of a spark to get that release process started. This track debuts at #5.
4. WizKid Feat. Drake - Hush Up The Silence
The latest track Drake has jacked from Nigerian sensation WizKid (who, if you weren't aware, is also responsible for The Weeknd's new "Starboy" moniker) is "Hush Up The Silence," which appeared in unfinished form on Saturday. Of course, Drake being Drake, this rocketed up the charts despite being taken down very shortly after its posting. "Hush Up The Silence" debuts at #4.
3. DJ Khaled Feat. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Future & Rick Ross - Do You Mind
It's still here...! DJ Khaled's Major Key single "Do You Mind" continues to elongate the record of "most consecutive weeks in the top ten" into 2017, and has now been around for a whopped six months. In its 26th week out, the track holds at #3.
2. Migos - T-Shirt
The latest in Migos' earth-conquering comeback moves, the "Revenant"-style "T-Shirt" video dropped ten days ago, and now has almost eight million views on YouTube. Powerful. Hopefully the ATL trio can round up this hype into the big sales numbers that their debut album didn't have. In its second week out, "T-Shirt" is up six places from #8 to #2.
1. Juelz Santana - Drake Voice (Prod. By Jahlil Beats)
The rules are simple: feature Drake on your song, and after a week it'll go #1 on our charts. Hell, even name Drake on your song, and it'll go #1 on our charts. Juelz Santana's recent comeback tracks with Jahlil Beats have all fared well, making the bottom halves of a few of our weekly Top Tens, but this clearly has something to do with the Drizzy sample on the hook. What about the Young Thug sample at the beginning though? "Drake Voice" debuts at #1.
