In his new memoir "Furious George," former head coach George Karl says some NBA players are on steroids.

Controversy surrounding George Karl's tell-all book "Furious George" keeps growing by the day. In his memoir, the former NBA head coach accuses the NBA of turning a blind eye on players taking performance-enhancing drugs.

"How are some guys getting older—yet thinner and fitter? How are they recovering from injuries so fast? Why the hell are they going to Germany in the off-season? I doubt it’s for the sauerkraut," Karl writes.

Though the league has a more thorough drug-testing program than the NFL or MLB and has introduced human growth hormones testing last year, Karl said he is stunned that nobody ever get punished publicly. He thinks that many go to Europe to benefit from the latest technology in human growth hormones and steroids.

"Unfortunately, drug testing always seems to be a couple steps behind drug hiding. Lance Armstrong never failed a drug test. I think we want the best athletes to succeed, not the biggest, richest cheaters employing the best scientists," he says.

According to an advanced copy of the book obtained by the NY Post, the former Denver Nuggets coach also took shots at his own former players Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin saying they were "the spoiled brats you see in junior golf and junior tennis." He also said Melo and K-Mart "carried two burdens: all that money and no father to show them how to act like a man."

Both Smith and Martin fired back at Karl on Twitter.
