A month or two ago there was a video making its way around the internet which promoted the MegaUpload website. The YouTube video featured a jingle for the site, and had appearences from quite a few artists, including Kanye West, Diddy and Will.i.am. Well it turns out the C.E.O. of MegaUpload is none other than Swizz Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean. If anyone had ever bothered to check the "About Us" page on Megaupload maybe we would have realized this sooner!
In other news related to the video, Universal Music Group (home to Diddy, Kanye and Will.i.am) issued a take-down notice to YouTube, saying that the artists performances were unauthorized. MegaUpload has fired back with a lawsuit against Universal to prohibit them from blocking the videos distrubition. A rep told the New York Post that, "we have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights."
