This, folks, is what's known as an oligarchy. It looks like president-elect Donald Trump is putting together the wealthiest cabinet in American history. The 17 selections Trump has made thus far have a combined wealth of over $9.5 billion, reports Quartz. That sum is more than the combined wealth of the 43 million least wealthy households in America, who represent over one-third of the country's 126 million households. What's more is that Trump still has several more positions to fill.
Most of the cabinet positions will require Senate confirmation, which due to the Republican-controlled Senate, should be likely across the board. In another statistic cited to show the enormous concentration of affluence in Trump's prospective cabinet, it would take about 120,000 households of the median U.S. net worth -- around $83,200 -- to amount to the total wealth of the four richest members of Trump's cabinet, those being Betsy DeVos, Wilbur Ross Jr., Linda McMahon, and Rex Tillerson.
There are also no Democrats yet to be selected for Trump's cabinet, which, if it plays out that way, is basically unprecedented since the 1940s. The Democrats, however, do not necessarily want one of their own in Trump's cabinet if that means replacing the hypothetical appointee's current post with a Republican.
