The New York Yankees have officially announced that Derek Jeter's jersey retirement ceremony will take place prior to their game against the Houston Astros on Sunday, May 14th. Tickets for that game have already skyrocketed to $222 at minimum.
Retiring Jeter's #2 means no Yankees player will ever wear a number 1-10 on their jersey ever again, as all of the others have since been retired. Additionally, Jeter will be enshrined with a plaque in Monument Park which sits just beyond the center field wall at Yankee Stadium.
It's no surprise that the Yankees are retiring the jersey of a five time World Series champ and 14 time All-Star, but now that an official date has been set the Yankee faithful can start arranging their plans for 5/14.
