Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently appeared on the Warriors Insider Podcast and admitted to using medical marijuana to help ease the pain of back surgery that he underwent in July of 2015.
Kerr noted that he's not a "pot person" but did say he thinks it's only a matter of time before major sports leagues allow their players to smoke weed.

“I’m not a pot person; it doesn’t agree with me,” Kerr said. “I’ve tried it a few times, and it did not agree with me at all. So I’m not the expert on this stuff. But I do know this: If you’re an NFL player, in particular, and you’ve got a lot of pain, I don’t think there is any question that pot is better for your body than Vicodin. And yet athletes everywhere are prescribed Vicodin like it’s Vitamin C, like it’s no big deal.”
Of course, Kerr's players were asked about those comments and Klay Thompson agreed that weed has medical benefits, but said it should never be used recreationally.
Per ESPN:
“But not recreation use,” Klay Thompson said. “That should not be of its use ever, but there’s obviously a medicinal side to [marijuana] that people are finding out have benefits, especially people in really high pain.”
“I’ve never been a guy who has done it, period,” Draymond Green said. “So, I can’t say that I know much about it, but from what I hear from whether it’s football guys, I think a lot of them do it because of all the pain that they go through.
“And when you read Steve’s comments, it makes a lot of sense. When you look at something that comes from the earth, any vegetable that comes from the earth, they encourage you to eat it. So, I guess it does make a little sense as opposed to giving someone a manufactured pill. If something takes your pain away like some of these pills do, it can’t be that good for you.”
For the record, Klay was arrested for marijuana possession during his Washington State days back in 2011, but we're sure that wasn't for 'recreational use.'
