Most young men with full control over their Internet browsers will recognize Mia Khalifa. Hip-hop fans might also remember the former porn star for calling out Drake after he attempted to slide in her DMs. She is currently retired from the adult film industry and is now a prominent social media personality, known for her knowledgeable sports commentary. There are thousands who can envision Khalifa in a more esteemed position, however -- as a United States diplomat to Saudi Arabia.
A petition, directed at president-elect Donald Trump, that seeks to "make Mia Khalifa ambassador to Saudi Arabia" has popped up on Change.org and has already attained almost 4,000 signatures. As for the inspiration behind the campaign, the petition's creator, Dalcolm Rodriguez-Goldstein, offered a statement that paints Khalifa as an ideal-sounding candidate:
Mia Khalifa has a proven track record of bringing people together regardless of cultural background for the betterment of our country and international community. She will be a great leader representing us in the middle east as well as a symbol of the melting pot that is America.
Khalifa is indeed of Middle Eastern descent, though she was born in Lebanon and doesn't appear to have any ties to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi state, which is governed on sharia law, will likely have no interest in the American values that Khalifa adheres to. In any case, her proposed diplomatic appointment makes just as much sense as other recent selections in our government, in which qualifications seem to be taking a backseat.
