In a Facebook Live video broadcasted Friday, Yasiin Bey announced that he will be canceling his remaining U.K. tour dates and retire following a show scheduled for sometime this week in Cape Town. He will livestream the farewell performance.
“I’m retiring for real this year, this week,” he told fans. “With the 17th anniversary of Black on Both Sides being released, I am grateful to have had the career that I have been able to enjoy.”
He expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported him over the years and revealed his intention to enter the fashion industry and complete a handful of films. His impromptu Facebook Live session followed the original retirement announcement he made on Kanye West's website in January: “I’m retiring from the musical recording industry and also from Hollywood effective immediately. I am releasing my final album this year and that’s that.”
Bey still plans to releases a collaborative project with Ferrari Sheppard called Dec. 99th. Stay tuned for more information regarding his final show.
