"There comes a time when silence is betrayal."

Serena Williams recently took to Facebook to express some concerns about the social injustices that still plague our country, something that dawned on her while driving in the passenger seat of a car driven by her 18-year old nephew.

In the post, Serena noted that as they were driving she noticed a cop car up ahead which triggered the thought of some recent police violence involving a man who was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop.

Than I remembered that horrible video of the woman in the car when a cop shot her boyfriend. All of this went through my mind in a matter of seconds. I even regretted not driving myself. I would never forgive myself if something happened to my nephew. He's so innocent. So were all "the others"

I am a total believer that not "everyone" is bad It is just the ones that are ignorant, afraid, uneducated, and insensitive that is affecting millions and millions of lives.

Serena then shifted the focus of her post to discuss why she hasn't been more vocal and how she vows to no longer keep quiet. She quoted Martin Luther King JR., "There comes a time when silence is betrayal."

The Facebook post, shown below, comes just a day after LeBron James expressed similar concerns for his son during the Cavs Media Day.
