The Miami Marlins' star pitcher, Jose Fernandez was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident near Miami Beach. The 24-year old Cuban-born pitcher was found dead with two other men by the Coast Guard shortly after their 32-foot boat was discovered at approximately 3:15am.
Fernandez was defected to the United States in 2008 when he was just 15-years old and drafted by the Marlins three years later in 2011. He quickly became the franchise's ace of the future, being named the National League Rookie Of The Year in 2013 and making the All-Star team twice.
As a result of the tragic news, the Marlins have cancelled today's game against the Atlanta Braves.
