Researchers at Australia's Deakin University conducted a study in 2014 in which they interviewed 1,000 participants to determine "the connection between habitual music engagement and subjective wellbeing." They have published their findings in the newest issue of Psychology of Music; in the abstract, the research team wrote that their study "revealed that engaging with music by dancing or attending musical events was associated with higher subjective wellbeing than for those who did not engage with music in these forms."
"The insight gained from these findings can be used to inform future interventions," the study abstract concludes, "and to better understand how music is involved in emotional regulation."
This isn't a shocking revelation but it's comforting to hear nevertheless. So get out there and buy those concert tickets you want to buy, even though you're too broke!!
