It's safe to say that Denver Broncos WR, Demaryius Thomas and his family are HUGE supporters of President Obama.
Thomas' mother had her 20-year drug sentence commuted in 2015, which allowed her to watch Demaryius play football for the first time last season. He had a chance to personally thank the Pres after the Broncos won Super Bowl 50 last season.
Now, President Obama has agreed to cut Thomas' grandmother's life sentence which means she will officially be released on December 1st.
Minnie Pearl Thomas, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2000 for running a cocaine ring, is just one of 214 inmates who had their sentences commuted by Obama yesterday.
POTUS and Demaryius both spoke about the decision which has given Thomas' mother, and her mother, second chances.
“The more we understand the human stories behind this problem, the sooner we can start making real changes that keep our streets safe, break the cycle of incarceration in this country, and save taxpayers like you money,” Obama said in a Facebook post regarding his decision.
"I don’t really know what to say. I just want to talk to my granny. I haven’t talked to her in a couple of weeks. I’m excited for her. She was sad when mom left. She used to cry when she was in there by herself. I’m just excited for her and I want to thank Obama for all that he’s done for her and everybody else.”
"My mom and I made mistakes by getting involved with drugs. We regret it and have each paid dearly for it,” Smith said in the petition. “But neither of us deserved the long sentences we received.”
