A recording of Kanye West's phone call with British DJ/radio personality Annie Mac just aired on BBC Radio 1. Before the live airing, the network had released a few of Kanye's choice quotes from the conversation, including those on his planned 2020 presidential run, wanting to design for IKEA, and the 2015 Glastonbury performance that left him in a "depressed state." In light of the revelatory interview, it was thought that Annie Mac's "Hottest Record" of the day might be a new premiere from Kanye West. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, as the Hottest Record was instead "Fade," a track off Kanye's February album, The Life of Pablo. He revealed that he has selected the track, which features Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone, as the latest single to be taken off The Life of Pablo, following "Famous" and "Father Stretch My Hands."
"Fade" is inspired by the Chicago house music that Kanye grew up listening to, and he told Annie that he sees the track as a staple for his upcoming live shows, as it's a song that "people could really go crazy to." He also explained that, throughout his career, he's rarely dropped a single that immediately does well on the radio, suggesting that sometimes the full potential of his music doesn't become apparent until it's experienced in a live, electrifying environment. "This type of art takes a while to cook," he said.
