More and more rumors about Kevin Durant's departure from Oklahoma City have been circulating the web in the last week, with the latest report being that KD actually told Russell Westbrook, "I'm coming back, man. Don't worry about it."
While Westbrook still hasn't made any public comments about Durant's decision to leave, KD recently spoke with The Vertical to dismiss any claims that he assured Russ of any such return. He calls the report flat out false.
"It’s false."
"I didn’t say that—words about me telling Russell or Nick [Collison] that I would stay or leave never came out of my mouth. We met as teammates, but no promises came out of it. In this day and age, I can’t control anything people claim out there. Someone can go out and say something random right now, and people will believe it. I never told Russell or Nick, 'All right, guys, I’m coming back to the Thunder'—and then a week later, I decide not to. Never happened. I don’t operate like that. I heard people say that story, but it’s not the truth."
Hopefully, this will be the end of the conversation and we can just let everybody duke it out on the basketball court. Ideally, the NBA will make Warriors vs. Thunder a Christmas Day special.
