Vince Staples was just revealed to be the third and final star of FADER's annual Summer Music Issue. In his cover story, the author gets to hear some of Staples' latest project, which had been previously unannounced. The story now confirms that Staples is prepping an EP entitled Prima Donna. The "tentative release date" of the project is some time this summer.
Prima Donna will be Staples' first new project since his universally lauded debut album, Summertime '06, which was released about a year ago. From the details shared by FADER, Prima Donna sounds like it will be conceptual and full of pain and aggression. Apparently the EP "starts with a rap star killing himself and concludes with him first coming to fame." "If there was a best-case scenario for hell's sonics, Prima Donna might be it," writes Jeff Weiss.
For production, it has been revealed that Prima Donna will include contributions from DJ Dahi as well as UK virtuoso James Blake.
