Perhaps this week's playlist won't be as useful as usual, as most rap fans will likely have GuWop on repeat all weekend in celebration of the Trap God's surprise release from prison yesterday. He had been locked up for three years, and unsurprisingly, he recorded a track on his first day out, aptly titled "First Day Out Tha Feds," produced by his reliable longtime collaborator Mike Will Made-It. We had to kick off our new playlist with that one, but those who've already exhausted Gucci's massive discography should keep on listening, as there were a gang of amazing tracks released this past week that deserve to be highlighted.
Fabolous was one of a few New York elites to take a stab at the Terror Squad's surprise hit "All the Way Up," and for his remix, he welcomed Meek Mill, who dropped off an exhilarating verse peppered with a few shots at his sworn enemy. The brand new "official" remix, included in today's playlist, gets an added verse from Jadakiss. After Joey Bada$$' heartfelt new single, the playlist gets a taste of two wildly different sides of sex-driven R&B, before segueing into a summery new drop from Uncle Snoop and, then, a stirring pop-meets-street confessional from Kevin Gates.
After Young Thug squawks out one of his most inspired (and abrasive) verses in recent memory to close out Nipsey Hussle's new motivational record, the playlist finishes with a soft and lovable studio experiment from Larry Fisherman and Mickey Christmas.
