This past week, we were finally able to take a deep breath and reflect on all of the major projects we've heard in the past month -- A$AP Ferg, Bankroll Mafia, Beyoncé, Drake, Skepta, Rittz, Chance The Rapper, and Post Malone have all dropped full-lengths in that relatively brief timespan. It would appear that the summer's first burst of high-profile albums has subsided, but as we await projects from Travi$ Scott, YG, ScHoolboy Q, and others, at least guys like The Underachievers and Casey Veggies have given us something new to chew on. Never a dull week, no matter where your tastes lie.
Our chart reflects this lull of full length releases, as it's mostly comprised of singles and loosies this week, with a few notable stragglers from Chance and Post's respective projects. Some other major changes: Tory Lanez is absent for the first time in a while, as last week unfortunately didn't include a Fargo Friday exclusive, and for the first time since mid-March, a Young Thug/Lil Uzi Vert collab by the name of "Dope" does not appear in the top 10. Unavailable to stream since about its second week out, "Dope" somehow maintained a high ranking, but now drops to #31. Big surprises from Die Antwoord and a pair of Dipset spitters make the cut, and aside from Chance, 2 Chainz has the most appearances with his pair of enthralling guest verses.
10. YG Feat. Drake & Kamaiyah - Why You Always Hatin?
By far the latest release on this list (the track premiered Saturday night on OVO Sound Radio), YG's new single covered a lot of ground in a short time, and it's clear why. "Why You Always Hatin?" is a heater, from its melodic opening verse, to its deadpan hook, to Drake's potentially-better-than-any-VIEWS verse. YG's Still Krazy is shaping up to live up to its title, and it's great to see him be able to rub shoulders with stars while still being able to put on a rising talent from his home state. "Why You Always Hatin?" debuts at #10, but expect it to rise next week.
9. Chance The Rapper Feat. Future - Smoke Break
One of only three songs retained from last week's list, Chance and Future's "Smoke Break" unfortunately didn't last long online, as most of Coloring Book, save for the single, has been scrubbed clean of anything that isn't a major streaming service. Still, people are clearly still checking for this one, and consdering its two stars' unlikely chemistry, that's no surprise. "Smoke Break" drops from #6 to #9 in its second week.
8. Cam'ron Feat. Juelz Santana - Oh Yeah
As it turns out, Killa Cam and Juelz are capable of temporarily transforming the world into 2003 again. We learned as much on their barn burner of a new track, "Oh Yeah," on which producer Trigga T conjures up his finest Just Blaze bombast, and both Dipset MCs kick rhymes back and forth like they've never lost a step. "Oh Yeah" debuts at #8, making it the first appearance on our top tracks list in a while for either dude.
7. Post Malone Feat. 2 Chainz - Money Made Me Do It
Once of the sure highlights on Post's recent tape August 26, this steel drum-accented 2 Chainz collab is something like a swaggier, less ambitious version of Jamie XX, Popcaan, and Young Thug's "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)" from last summer. Post keeps it wavy with a great hook, and Tity Boi holds down his verse with hilarious bars like "You a clown like your daddy met your mom at a circus." "Money Made Me Do It" debuts at #7.
6. Die Antwoord Feat. GOD - BUM BUM
Last week, we got the rare chance to premiere new music from bizarre South African rap duo Die Antwoord, and it lit shit up on the chart. "BUM BUM" centers on ass-play, runs on a deliciously minimal beat, and features someone who goes by "GOD" (maybe, but probably not, the same one who appeared on Kanye West's "I Am A God"). "BUM BUM" debuts at #6.
5. Chris Brown Feat. T-Pain - Bring It Back
This somewhat unexpected pair united for a fun party track that Breezy dropped after safely arriving at Cannes Film Festival. It's unclear whether "Bring It Back" will appear on CB's upcoming project, but it does make for his fourth track to appear in our top ten in three weeks, which is quite impressive. "Bring It Back" makes its debut at #5.
4. Chance The Rapper Feat. 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne - No Problem
A new frontrunner in the unofficial "song of the summer" competition, "No Problem" was always destined to be the Coloring Book track that appealed to the most corners of the rap game, what with Chance not seeming quite as Chance as he does on the rest of the tape, and two stellar verses from the makers of ColleGrove. Although it slips from #1 to #4, expect "No Problem" to live on in car stereos and aux cord DJs' playlists this summer.
3. T.I. Feat. Marsha Ambrosius - Dope (Prod. by Dr. Dre)
T.I. and Dr. Dre linking up for an Aaliyah homage? Never would have expected that one. Dre gives "Rock the Boat" a characteristically sleek update on "Dope," Tip is fluid as fuck in all three of his verses, and Marsha Ambrosius would make Baby Girl proud with her deft additions to the existing hook. "Dope" debuts at #3.
2. ScHoolboy Q Feat. Kanye West - THat Part
Details on Groovy Q's next solo project have been scant thus far, but between the previously-released "Groovy Tony" and this Ye collab, it's safe to say that anticipation is high all the same. With no release date in sight, let's hope Q either drops a few more of this caliber to tide us over, or else just decides to drop the damn thing tomorrow (GET TOP ON THE PHONE!). "THat Part" remains at #2 for its second week on the chart.
1. Tyga - Cash Money
Things haven't been easy for T-Raww in the past year or so, and that worsened last week with an official-this-time breakup with Kylie Jenner, but he decided to deal with it in the best way possible: dropping a good old-fashioned diss track. Wisely, he decided to aim it at his former label rather than his former boo. Proclaiming "Cash Money never paid me, but your boy did his thing and still maaade cash money," the Cali MC settles the score while sounding great doing so, courtesy of tight bars and a floating beat. Let's see what surprises his next chapter will hold. "Cash Money" debuts at #1.
