It looks like Kanye West is the latest artist to be hit with a lawsuit over sampled music. According to TMZ, the G.O.O.D. Music CEO is getting sued by Hungarian composer Gabor Presser for his Yeezus single “New Slaves.”
TMZ reports that Pressor originally gave Kanye clearance to use his single “Gyöngyhajú lány,” under the assumption a formal deal would then be worked out. However, Pressor claims that never happened and all he received was a $10,000 check, which he apparently never cashed.
So with that being, Pressor is now seeking at least $2.5 million in damages and copyright infringement from Yeezy. Whether or not he gets any of that or reaches a settlement will be known at a later date, but it sounds like a classic case of a money-hungry musician.
