Jimmy Fallon has proven to be a reliable plug when it comes to hip-hop. Last night, Chance the Rapper went on The Tonight Show to debut a new song, "Blessings," and announce the release date of his long-awaited Chance 3 mixtape. NBC has now revealed that the next hip-hop star to guest on The Tonight Show will be Drake, who will appear on the late night program next Thursday, May 12.
Drake, however, is not listed as the Tonight Show's musical guest on May 12 -- that title goes to Meghan Trainor. Instead, it seems that Drake will sit down with Fallon for an interview. The only other non-musical guest of the night is Fox News commentator Megyn Kelley.
It would be disappointing if Drake didn't surprise viewers by performing some new material off VIEWS -- especially with The Roots as his backing band. Whatever goes down, let's hope that he doesn't go the same route as Yo Gotti and drop a collab with Meghan Trainor.
After his appearance on the Tonight Show, Drake will come back to 30 Rock two nights later to appear on Saturday Night Live. Earlier this week, NBC announced that Drake will be the host as well as the musical guest of SNL on May 14 (perhaps why he might not perform on Fallon). His music has been everywhere, and next week, he'll get some high-profile TV time to boot.
