Lauryn Hill announces the inaugural "Diaspora Calling" art and music festival in Brooklyn.

After the confusion with her Grammy performance (or lack thereof), Lauryn Hill is taking things into her own hands, with the announcement of a new music and arts festival, Diaspora Calling.

The festival is happening at Brooklyn's Kings Theatre tomorrow, although it already opened quietly last night with a private gallery showing. As Lauryn Hill explains, Diasapora Calling is "intended to celebrate the rich tapestry of artists from the African Diaspora while also illumining persistent and irrepressible themes... Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves."

At the opening last night, Hill DJ'd, and she'll be headlining the festival on Friday night. The festival will be live-streamed via TIDAL.
