After the Kanye-inspired chaos of last week, the past seven days have been relatively tame in the rap world, with the twin titans of last weekend (TLOP and the substantially less interesting Grammy awards) still dominating the conversation. Spillover aside, we got solid new projects from French Montana, Kirko Bangz, Yo Gotti, Young Dolph, TM88, and Gucci Mane/Honorable C-Note, but no Slime Season 3 just yet. Anticipation continues to build for A$AP Ferg's Always Strive And Prosper, which is still supposedly coming out this month, with news of guest appearances from Missy Elliott, Chuck D, and more adding fuel to the fire.
Tracks-wise, there was quite a bit of heat, leading to a pretty substantial turnover in our top ten. Only three tracks remain from last week's list-- two Kanye-related, and one that should be pretty obvious at this point. Elsewhere, two stellar new Lil Wayne features popped up, an elusive idol briefly returned, A$AP Mob's Wavy Wednesdays series kept rolling, and an already-bubbling underground hit got a major remix.
10. Jay Electronica - The Curse Of Mayweather
As is usually the case with him at this point, Jay Electronica's been in the news more for his non-musical antics than any new material as of late. The latest incident involved him going after Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, and after causing that stir, Elec addressed it in a new track called "The Curse Of Mayweather." Nodding to Tribe's "Can I Kick It?" and Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks," he delivered a somewhat poorly received (51% user rating) screed about his competitors.
9. A$AP Twelvyy Feat. A$AP Nast & A$AP Rocky - Lords Never Worry
A$AP Twelvyy's had a super productive 2016 thus far, even before Wavy Wednesdays began. His latest is assisted by Nast and Rocky, a gritty banger that shares its name with the Mob's 2012 mixtape and has the three members declaring themselves the "new Black Panthers." Fueled by recognizable drum break and capped off by a stunning Rocky verse, this is arguably the best track the series has produced.
8. Kanye West - I Love Kanye (Stefan Ponce Remix)
Possibly the shortest song to ever appear in our top ten, Stefan Ponce's minute and four seconds-long remix of "the fulcrum of TLOP," "I Love Kanye," which was originally an a cappella track. Ponce hones in on the "chop up the soul Kanye" referenced in the track, lovingly looping a crackling classic into a nostalgic-sounding lope.
7. Yo Gotti Feat. Lil Wayne - Bible
Killer Mike once rapped that he kept "a blunt and a bible and a gun on me" (why? "Because I'm country-bred"), and on Yo Gotti's The Art Of Hustle highlight, he focuses on the latter 2/3rds of that list. It's already a standout cut, but then Tunechi hops on and murks the shit. With the "Down In The DM" remix dropping off the list this week, Gotti keeps his streak alive.
6. Drake - Summer Sixteen
Almost a month after its release and HNHH's most-viewed track of all time is finally starting to lose steam. "Summer Sixteen" will hit 3.5 million views this week, but it had a pretty steep dropoff from last week's number two spot. Time for Drizzy to premiere another new one on OVO Sound Radio?
5. Young Thug - Untitled (Yeezy 3)
With SS3 not arriving as promised, Thugger's increasingly large fanbase had to whet their appetites with more plays of this incomplete track debuted at Kanye's listening party. Unfortunately, the LA Leakers stream has been taken down at this point, but hopefully we'll get the final soon enough. The song moved up one spot to land at number five this week.
4. Curren$y Feat. Lil Wayne - Fat Albert
Two months into the year and Weezy's already had more hot verses than the entirety of No Ceilings 2. First came his and 2 Chainz's "Back On The Bullshyt," then the aforementioned Yo Gotti collab, but the most fire of all has to be Curren$y's "Fat Albert." Reuniting with his "You Ain't Got Nuthin" producer The Alchemist, Wayne completely dominates this one, with Spitta handing off the mic to him after just a minute-long verse. Whereas he's sounded like he's trying hard, straining his vocals on many of his recent cuts, this one is a welcome return to the languid confidence of many of his early highlights. The record makes its entry onto our Top 100 at number four.
3. Wiz Khalifa - Fake
Another new Khalifa song? December brought us Cabin Fever 3, last week marked the release of the Khalifa album, and on Monday, he was right back at it with a new one-off cut. This one's much more in the laid back Kush & OJ lane that his fans have prayed he'll revisit since the dust first started accumulating on those DatPiff files. A sign for his next project? Maybe, but for now we'll enjoy what we've got.
2. Kanye West - 30 Hours
The version of "30 Hours" that hit Soundcloud before TLOP was streamable differs from the final in that its last two minutes have no ad-libs from Kanye (that mumbled line about Matt Barnes? Amazing) and no minuscule appearance from Andre 3000. Feel free to add your own bars to its second half. It drops down one spot from last week's number one position.
1. Travi$ Scott - Uber Everywhere (Remix)
Madeintyo's been steadily blowing up since last year, when his underground hit "Uber Everywhere," Private Club production sounds, and omnipresent "SKR SKR" ad-lib all took off, but this is definitely the biggest co-sign he's gotten thus far. La Flame almost completely erases the original's vocals, completely remaking the track into something that more suits his style. Thankfully, we still get a little bit of Tyo at the end. Although initially Travi$ seemed upset by the leak, he's taken it all in stride, as have his fans, pushing the song to a number one debut on our Top 100.
