Executive producing television and film is a natural evolution for veteran rappers, it seems. Last week, it was announced that 50 Cent would be executive producing a new sitcom called "My Friend 50." Today, Variety reports that Nas will serve as the executive producer on an upcoming indie film starring Erykah Badu called "The Land." He will also oversee production of the film's soundtrack.
“[I’m a] huge fan of my man Steve Caple Jr,” Nas said of the film’s director. “I think he can become the next great filmmaker. [I’m] also, very excited to be working with my former agent and friend Charles King on his first film with his new venture. All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results.”
“The Land” follows four teenage boys living in Cleveland who get caught up in the dealings of a drug queen-pin in the midst of their efforts to become professional skateboarders. The film stars Michael K. Williams, Kim Coates, & Machine Gun Kelly, among others. It premieres at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival next month.
