Prodigy has managed to have a successful career as a solo artist outside of his work with Mobb Deep, but according to a new lawsuit, he hasn't been seeing the money he was promised. TMZ reports that the Queensbridge rapper is taking Universal to task for royalties, suggesting that the label has been scooping up 50% of the earnings from his solo output -- an arrangement that was only meant for Mobb Deep's catalog.
The duo entered a contract with Universal in 1995 (back when it was BMG), and Prodigy also released some material through the label, but he wasn't expecting them to take half of his royalties -- so he's asking for $57,489 in compensation, plus lawyer fees.
Last we heard from the Mobb Deep camp, they were working on a follow-up to 2014's The Infamous Mobb Deep. Hopefully we'll see that one soon.
