Yesterday (Oct. 24) was Drake's birthday, and he was spotted partying in Vegas with Big Sean and rising Chicago rapper 600Breezy. He also happened to receive a birthday wish from one of his early career mentors, Birdman, with whom his relationship has perhaps since soured.
As Lil Wayne is currently in the middle of a stagnant $51 million lawsuit with the Cash Money CEO, there was much speculation upon whom Drizzy would side with in the ongoing conflict. Drake's last solo album, If You're Reading This It's Too Late, was released without prior notice, and some believed that he made a "mixtape" into an "album" to further approach the quota required by his contract with Cash Money.
It was also posited that the album's title was a sly shot directed at Birdman and the Cash Money staff. On "Star67," Drake rapped, "Brand new Berretta, can't wait to let it go / Walk up in my label like, where the check though?"
On the other side, Birdman hasn't said anything to imply that his business relationship with rap's biggest star is in jeopardy. He was, in fact, blessed to get IYRTITL released on Cash Money, as the album has since been certified Platinum. In addition, Drake's surprise collaborative album with Future, What a Time to Be Alive, was credited as a joint release between Cash Money and Epic Records.
Birdman's recent Instagram post, in which he shouts out both OVO and YMCMB, would signal that nothing has changed between him and Drake in the midst of Wayne's efforts to flee Cash Money and take Young Money with him.
Where do you think the current situation between Drake and Birdman stands?
