Percy Miller, aka Master P, has been in the headlines recently after he accused Kobe Bryant for visiting Lamar Odom in the hospital for publicity's sake. He's now made some more surprising claims, suggesting that a number of the best rappers of all time wanted to sign to his record label, No Limit, in its heyday.
In a new interview with HipHopDX, P lists Eminem, Nas, and T.I. among the artists whom had reached out to him looking for a record deal. "Anybody you can think of called me for advice or thinking, 'What can I do to get with No Limit?'" said the 45-year old rapper, who's still at the helm of the famed New Orleans label. "From Eminem to T.I. to anybody you could think of, we done had that conversation where they wanted to be with No Limit."
Miller also said that 2Pac, who he had toured with, as well as Nas, with whom P recorded "Where Do We Go From Here," alongside No Limit acts Mac and Sons of Funk, both wanted to be a part of the No Limit team.
If true, P's revelation speaks to the success of No Limit in its glory days, but perhaps it also speaks to P's lack of foresight as an A&R man? In any case, No Limit surely paved the way for many local independent labels to blow up on the national level.
