An in-depth look at rap sales and chart placements this week.

This wasn't a very exciting week for rap on the charts. Over the last couple cycles we've seen the same albums slowly descending, with Drake being the only record to have a second wind in recent weeks. We did see Kehlani's debut this week, taking a page from Drizzy and Young Thug's playbook and putting her "mixtape" on iTunes. She comes in at 36, but we're hoping to see the project gradually make its way up the charts as her hype continues to grow. Her new deal with Atlantic should ensure a push.

1)        Various Artists— Furious 7: The Furious OST spends another week as the frontrunner in the rap album race, falling from number 2 to number 3. The compilation moved 18,225 units this week (62,445 with streams), making for 144,867 in sales overall.

2)        Drake—If You're Reading This It's Too Late: Drake's physical release of IYRTITL has given his "mixtape" quite a boost, jumping to 4 last week, and moving down one spot to 5 this cycle. The project sold 18,441 copies this week (36,675 with streams), putting it at 881,402 total.

3)        YelawolfLove Story: Yela falls from 3 to 15 this week, adding 14,772 to his tally, (19,527 including streams). This puts him at 66,244 total sales.

4)        Nicki MinajThe Pinkprint: Nicki moved a modest 4,237 units (17,645 with streams) this week, bit still managed to sneak into the top 20 at 18. She's sold a grand total of 606,735 copies of The Pinkprint so far.

5)        Kendrick LamarTo Pimp A Butterfly: After spending a good few weeks in the top 10, Kendrick is falling fast, moving from 14 to 19 this week. TPAB has moved 557,329 total units, 10,676 of them (17,379 with streams) this week.

6)        Empire—Season 1 OST: The Empire soundtrack is still kicking, but has certainly lost some momentum, moving from 19 to 21. The OST sells 12,646 units this week (16,579 including streams).

7)        Big Sean—Dark Sky Paradise: Sean drops one spot to 23, moving 5,076 units (15,820 including streams). DSP is sitting at 264,328 total sales.

8)        Kehlani—You Should Be Here: Kehlani is the only relevant debut this week, and while she only managed to move 12,099 copies (13,460 including streams) of her new mixtape, we see a big chart presence in her future. She makes her debut at 36.Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" has shown no signs of giving up its throne, but with Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" moving up to the number 2 spot, it's seeing its first threat. Wap's name has been everywhere this week following a co-sign from everyone's favorite tastemaker, Drizzy Drake Rogers, so we feel that the hype will be reflected in next week's charts, and may be enough to push the New Jersey crooner into the top spot. "Post To Be" maintains its place at number 13, but the new remix may give it a boost in the next cycle. Meanwhile, T-Wayne's "Nasty Freestyle" continues to defy expectations, jumping into the top ten. Vine is a powerful force.
