Kevin Gates is facing battery charges for kicking a female fan in the chest during a performance at a club in Lakeland, FL last August. According to TMZ, he is citing the "Stand Your Ground" law to argue that he was within his rights to kick her.
In the footage of the incident, 18-year-old Miranda Dixon playfully tugged on Gates shorts moments before he wound up and punted her in the chest. Gates reportedly claims that Dixon had been tugging on his shorts all night in order to pull him off the stage, despite his verbal warnings. And by kicking her, he was preventing himself from coming to any harm. He has reportedly requested that the judge dismiss the case.
His legal defense hinges on the controversial "Stand Your Ground" law used by George Zimmerman to defend his shooting and killing of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, FL in 2012. Zimmerman was famously acquitted... let's see if it works for Gates.
