The kids are all abuzz with hype about this female rapper who performed at the Super Bowl halftime show last night-- have you heard of her? She's Missy Elliott. Yes, it would seem that her appearance on one of the most-watched television events in the nation brought her a ton of new, young fans, some of whom are reacting similarly to when Kanye West recently featured a virtually unknown artist named Paul McCartney on a recent track.
In more quantifiable terms, Spotify is reporting that between the hour before the game and midnight last night, streams of Elliott's music increased by a whopping 676 percent. Of course, the halftime show's other two performers, Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz, also saw increases, but their numbers (85% for Perry and 103% for Kravitz) pale in comparison to Missy's. Spotify wasn't the only place Elliott's music saw increased popularity, as she also currently has a few songs among the top 10 most downloaded chart on iTunes.
Elliott hasn't released an album since 2005's The Cookbook, but now seems like a better time than ever to mount a comeback.
