This week on Charts Don't Lie we see the Christmas spirit in effect, as Mariah Carey's 1994 album Merry Christmas soars back up the charts. We're also seeing a relatively quick decent for the MMG boss Rick Ross, and a relatively low debut for his counterpart Omarion. Wu-Tang Clan arrive on the charts with A Better Tomorrow receiving around 25k streams and sales, although they get one-upped by Ms. Mary J. Blige who did 57k with her album The London Sessions. Once again, we'll reiterate how the numbers below reflect a mix of both album sales and streams, but the number in brackets is strictly old-fashioned album sales. See how this takes effect below.
1) Mary J. Blige—The London Sessions: R’n’b veteran Mary J. Blige released her new album, entirely recorded in London hence the title The London Sessions. The album made a Billboard 200 debut at #9, after selling 57,000 (sales: 55,000).
2) Eminem— Shady XV: After debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 last week, this week the Shady XV compilation slips down to #21. The album moved and streamed another 33,212 copies (sales: 28,747) bringing up the grand total to 170,772.
3) Wu-Tang Clan—A Better Tomorrow: Wu-Tang Clan’s reunion album entered the Billboard 200 this past week, at #29. The album managed to sell 25,032 units opening week (sales: 24,386). We’ll have to see how it stacks up in the long run.
4) Beyonce—Beyonce: Beyonce remains stagnant at her #39 resting spot this week, with her album pushing another 19,906 units (sales: 10,778) while her total album sales for her self-titled LP reach 2,316,000.
5) Rick Ross— Hood Billionaire: Rozay’s second effort of the year, Hood Billionaire, isn’t performing as well as Mastermind, but he’s still holding on to a spot within the top 50. After arriving at #6 last week, Ross drops down to #42 this week. The album did numbers of 18,757 (sales: 15,513) in its second week out, while total sales are currently 90,056).
6) Mariah Carey—Merry Christmas: Tis the season. Mariah Carey’s Christmas album has skyrocketed back up the charts this week, as we approach the holiday. The album was sitting at #77 last week, and comes in at #43 this week. She sold another 18,757 units (sales: 11,427) with total sales of 2,695,511.
7) Omarion— Sex Playlist: MMG’s r’n’b singer Omarion quickly released his Sex Playlist album, without making too much noise. Thus it’s unsurprising that the album is debuting at #49, after selling and streaming 16,191 copies (sales: 12,644).
8) Chris Brown—X: Breezy’s album falls below the top 50 mark this week, coming in at #54, a drop from #48. X still got out 13,983 units (sales: 7,049) with total sales at 294,343.
9) T.I.—Paperwork: Paperwork is another album that dropped below the top 50 this week, coming in at #63 after charting for seven weeks. Tip pushed 12,130 units (sales: 8,007), while the total sales for the album rise to 166,418.
On Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, we're seeing the effects of Christmas once more, with Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" re-enter the chart at #50. Usher and Juicy J's "I Don't Mind" is up 9 spots to #45. Nicki Minaj's "Only" also rises up 1 spot to #32, while Iggy Azalea's Reclassified single "Beg For It" remains unmoved at #29. We're also seeing O.T. Genasis' "CoCo" continue to increase in popularity, as it climbs 10 spots to #28. Big Sean's f-you anthem "I Don't Fuck With You" sits at #14, with Beyonce's "7/11" right under it at #13 (up 5 spots).
