Weekly review of the Hip-Hop and R&B sales/charts.

This week we saw quite a few albums get pushed down thanks to new entries on the Billboard 200 that weren't strictly hip-hop. Jack White's Lazaretto took over the #1 spot, and various other albums, including a country record and "The Fault In Our Stars" movie soundtrack, rounded out the top 5. We won't spend too much time discussing those LPs as you likely have no interest in knowing where Miranda Lambert landed this week, however the hip-hop and r'n'b chart action was rather unexciting this week as well. In two days time we'll have Ab-Soul's These Days..., Riff Raff's Neon Icon and G-Eazy's These Things Happen to dwell on, and speculate how many copies each artist will move on opening week. Until that time, we have one new entry this week, which is the collaborative album from Mayday and Murs, coming in at #45, which isn't too shabby for a very underground release. There's also quite a bit of r'n'b charting at the moment, as you can see below.

1)         Michael Jackson— Xscape: MJ’s posthumous release Xscape actually rose up three spots this week, now sitting at #9. The album’s been charting for five weeks now, and has yet to depart the top of the Billboard 200. This week the album sold 24,861 units, with total sales at 309,133.

2)         50 Cent— Animal Ambition: Fif made his debut last week at #4, but he’s already fallen off the top 10 of the 200, dropping more than 10 spots this week to #15. The rapper still sold 17,118 copies of Animal Ambition, with total sales of 63, 846.

3)         Iggy Azalea— The New Classic: Iggy Azaela has been doing pretty well for herself with her debut album, although this week she experienced a bit of a drop, from #15 to #22. The New Classic pushed out 14,781 units, while her total sales rose to 177,983.

4)         PharrellG I R L: Skateboard P also fell a few ranks over the week, coming in at #29 this week. The singer’s new album sold 10,772 copies which brought P’s total sales to 436, 346.

5)         Jason DeruloTalk Dirty: We haven’t been tracking Jason Derulo’s Talk Dirty LP weekly, but that’s not to say it hasn’t been doing well on the charts. The r’n’b/pop singer’s album dropped this week to #35, after selling 9,299 copies. His total sales are at 116,795.

6)          John Legend— Love In The Future: Fellow r’n’b singer John Legend is giving Derulo a run for his money, although ultimately lagging behind, at #41 from #30 last week. The G.O.O.D. singer sold 8,551 units, with total sales of 538,485.

7)          Mariah Carey— Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse: Mariah Carey may not be making as big of a splash with her new album as she intended. This week, after just 3 weeks of charting, the album has fallen down to #43. With the drop on the charts, she sold 8,369 copies, and total sales are 83,039.

8)          Mayday & Murs— Mursday: Strange Music signees, Mayday and Murs, came together for a joint album accurately titled Mursday. The project made its debut on the Billboard 200 this week, with an entry spot of #45. The album sold 8,024 units this past week.

9)         Eminem—The Marshall Mathers LP 2: Eminem’s great descent down the Billboard 200 has officially begun. After clocking in at #44 this week, MMLP2 drops down to #52. It still moved out 6,087 copies, which brought total sales to 2,134,268. That’s after 32 weeks of charting.

10)       Justin TimberlakeThe 20/20 Experience 2: Justin Timberlake caps off the list this week, with The 20/20 Experience 2 coming in at #66. He’s been charting for 37 weeks strong, and still sold 5,214 copies this week. Total sales are 997,842.
