The past two weeks were dominated by Drake, who in turn dominated the charts with Nothing Was The Same. Now Justin Timberlake has taken over, with the release of The 20/20 Experience 2, his second album in the span of a year, and his second album to debut at #1 in that same time. While this album has received generally much less favorable reviews than the first part, that hasn't stopped fans from purchasing the LP, although the hype seems to have diminished by more than half, as only 350k was sold this time around. It's interesting to see though, because the first The 20/20 Experience saw a surge in sales and thus also climbed back up the Billboard 200 all the way to #11-- is that all just because he released the second album? So we find JT x 2 on Charts Don't Lie this week, and there's no telling how long that'll last-- it's already been awhile. Drake showed solid numbers for his second week in stores, proving he'll be going platinum in no time, as his total sales are already around the 800k mark. As we mentioned last week, Nelly's new M.O. album was looking like it would move 12-15k. In the end, it moved just above 15,000 units, which was strong enough to debut him at #14, but that probably won't last long. Check out how other artists fared on the charts this past week below.
1) Justin Timberlake— The 20/20 Experience 2: JT finds himself in a familiar place for the second time this year, with the release of his follow-up album The 20/20 Experience 2. As with its predecessor, this album has topped the charts, nabbing the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, although the LP moved much less copies. This time around Justin moved 350,000 as opposed to 968,000. Impressive all the same.
2) Drake—Nothing Was The Same: Drizzy got knocked off the #1 spot when Justin dropped his LP, but he’s holding on to #2. NWTS saw a 78% drop in sales this week, although the rapper still pushed 147,812 units. Will he continue doing these numbers for a steady period of time? If he is, he’ll be going platinum in no time, as his total sales are already at 806,449.
3) Justin Timberlake—The 20/20 Experience: Well this is just ridiculous. Somehow Justin managed to increase the sales of his first The 20/20 Experience upon the release of his second?! He climbed way back up the charts this week, from #37 to #11, moving another 18,371 units and increasing in sales by 48%.
4) Nelly—M.O.: Nelly’s new album M.O. was looking to do some pretty low numbers, but at least the final sales are on the higher-end of those low numbers. The rapper moved 15, 394 with M.O. opening week, managing to debut at #14 on the Billboard 200.
5) Robin Thicke—Blurred Lines: Mr. Thicke rose up two spots this week, now sitting at #15. The singer has been charting for 10 weeks and still sold 15,002 units.
6) Jay Z— Magna Carta Holy Grail: H-O-V also rose up on the Billboard 200 this week, however it was only a jump from #27 to #26. He sold another 12k of MCHG, making his sales 1,015,000. He's reached the double platinum mark now, including all those Samsung sales.
7) 2 Chainz— B.O.A.T.S. II: #METime: Tity Boi’s album comes in at #28 this week, after moving 12,000 units, bringing his tally up to 126,000 units total. The rapper dropped from #15 last week, and saw a drop in 32% when it comes to sales.
8) John Legend— Love In The Future: Although John Legend’s new r’n’b album saw a drop last week, this week he’s back up a few spots, at #29. The G.O.O.D. singer sold around 12k this week.
9) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis— The Heist: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis continue to dominate music, not only hip-hop, as they took the lead for nominations at the AMA awards. This week the duo climbed up 10 spots, to arrive at #39. They sold 8,000 copies, making their total sales 1,096,000.
10) The Weeknd— Kiss Land: The Weeknd fell off quite a bit over the past week, from #21 to #40. Kiss Land moved around 8k, which was a drop in sales of 45%. He’s been charting for 4 weeks now.
The MMG Self Made 3 compilation saw a steep drop, from #18 to #44, with their sales dipping by 48%, the crew moved around 7k. Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city is still climbing back up the charts, underneath MMG, at #57. K Dot's album pushed another 6,000 units making his total sales 1,052,0000. Juicy J's Stay Trippy remains stagnant this week, keeping the #62 spot he was at last week locked down. In singles news, Eminem's "Berzerk" off his upcoming MMLPII hit platinum this past week, sitting at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Drake's single, "Hold On, We're Going Home" also reached the platinum mark this week.
