This week we see Wiz Khalifa’s O.N.I.F.C. debut at #2, just as his last album, Rolling Papers did. However, the numbers don’t exactly add up-- O.N.I.F.C. sold less than Rolling Papers. While Rolling Papers may have been considered a commercial success, according to die-hard TGOD fans, it was far cry from what they knew and loved about Wiz. O.N.I.F.C. found Wiz attempting to return to his roots, but was it good enough? Or do we only have the ever-decreasing sales of LPs to blame? Ponder this while you take a look at the numbers this week.
1) Wiz Khalifa - O.N.I.F.C.: Wiz Khalifa’s new album, O.N.I.F.C., which found him return to his roots somewhat, also found him success. The LP landed at #2 on the charts after opening week, moving 131,213 units in its first week. 131k is less than his last album, as Rolling Papers moved 197k, but it debuted at the #2 spot just the same. It seems that TGOD fans are enjoying O.N.I.F.C. more though, so we’ll have to see if the Taylor Gang head honcho can surpass his previous LP’s numbers, but considering today’s definite decrease in album sales, this seems unlikely.
2) Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire: Alicia Keys’ is still sitting in the top 10 on the charts, having moved down from #1 last week to #7 this week. That’s 75,760 copies of her album moved.
3) Rihanna - Unapologetic: The Rihanna Navy is keeping her album afloat the top of the charts. This is Rih Rih’s third week on Charts Don’t Lie, and compared to last week her album sales didn’t see as steep of a decline. She moved down from #6 to #12 with a decrease of 18% in sales. That’s a total of 59,029 copies sold.
4) Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city: The rapper hailed the new King of the West is staying quite strong on the charts, decreasing 8% in sales in from last week. K. Dot moved 25,858 units off the shelves, landing at #31. Only time will tell if we have another 2 Chainz on our hands, or if soon he’ll disappear off the charts.
5) Cee-Lo Green - Cee-Lo’s Magic Moment: People are definitely getting in the Christmas spirit, as Cee-Lo’s Christmas-themed album continues to chart. Sales actually increased from last week (not a feat we usually see, but this makes sense as we approach the holiday). The LP lands at #32 this week, up three spots from last week, moving 25k.
Two past consistent r’n’bers on the charts, Ne-Yo & Miguel, with the R.E.D album and Kaleidoscope Dream respectively, are now no longer making significant enough amounts of sales to chart. For now, that about sums of the urban sphere of the charts, so we’ll have to see what changes next week brings to Charts Don’t Lie, namely, Big Boi and Game (although the odds are looking against both rappers).
