Felly has been working on his newest project for a minute now, having teased its release with the singles "Bag Season" and, more recently, "Wide Angle," which featured Konshens on the track. Now, fans and new recruits alike can listen to his album Wild Strawberries, which is available to stream now.
Hailing from Connecticut originally, this new LP finds Felly getting pretty experimental with his sounds, blending multiple genres and sounds into a complex, enriching aural ecosystem that you can get lost in if you're not careful. You can hear the hip-hop influences for sure, but there's a strong touch of reggae in there as well to go along with some electro and afro-style dance beats to boot. This is clearly an artist who does not have one preferred set of musical tastes and, in keeping with that, isn't afraid to get all Robin Thicke on us and blur those lines between genres.
Aside from Konshens, Wild Strawberries features the likes of GYYPS, Trip Carter, Frex and more as guest features, again seving as a reflection of his willingness to drink from different musical wells in order to construct something that departs from his previous work considerably. In a recent interview with XXL, Felly offered up a pretty distinct goal for this new release, which was, in part, to emulate a music legend.
"I just want to move the people sort of what [Bob] Marley did, as far as getting people to really be a wavelength of love and positivity. I think there's just so much negative s**t that people are trying to take different angles in the world. I just want everyone on wave of just love and feeling good. I want to loft people up and change the art a little bit."
