The endlessly prolific Curren$y somehow still manages to surprise us with his output. After announcing the project and releasing the tracklist just yesterday (!), Curren$y has laced us with the entire six song mixtape less than 24 hours later. We originally speculated that we'd hear a single today, so this is surprising, to say the least.
The tape itself is signature Cool & Dre and Curren$y. The beats are chilled out, simple affairs that the New Orleans rapper sounds right at home on. There are certainly moments of experimentation though, like on “Mallory Knox,” which features Spitta Andretti going over a Bay area style beat, with a fat bass line that DJ Mustard would be proud of.
Curren$y should probably slow down at some point. Eventually we’ll be expecting a new mixtape every week. I guess we could think of worse universes to live in.
