At the beginning of the month, Kanye West finally made The Life of Pablo available on Spotify and Apple Music, as the album had previously remained exclusively on Tidal and Kanye's own website since its February 14 release. The decision came after Kanye had said he would never put The Life of Pablo on Apple, promising that it would forever remain exclusive to Tidal. In moving the album to Apple Music and Spotify, however, The Life of Pablo is now eligible to be listed on the charts, and according to HDD, Kanye's seventh studio album is set to debut at No. 1, making it the first album ever to attain the top spot off streaming numbers alone.
There were a relatively small number of album downloads that have been purchased via Kanye's website, though TLOP's total streaming numbers -- combining the streams from Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal -- made up the vast majority of the 90,000 in sales with which the album has reportedly been credited. At the end of last month, Tidal unveiled its TLOP streaming numbers for the first time, reporting that the album had been streamed almost 250 million times in its first 10 days of availability.
It's unclear where the number of 90,000 (in equivalent sales) comes from, but massive streaming numbers like these will become all the more common in the near future. Congrats to Kanye on yet another groundbreaking achievement.
