Converse is really branching out now. Last year, the stories brand gave its iconic Chuck Taylor sneaker its first ever makeover, adding some much needed structure and additional support to the 90 year old sneaker. In 2016, the sneaker brand will be releasing its first collaboration on the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II.
The brand selected famed street artist Futura for the collaboration, which will include both high top and low top versions of the sneakers and a few apparel pieces. The Brooklyn-based artist’s abstract work is displayed prominently on the high top, with the artwork making up the majority of the upper, while the low top features a more subtle implementation of Futura’s patterns. Both sneakers get additional upgrades as well. Both sneakers will feature a rip-stop fabric and rubberized weather for harsher use, most likely inspired by the iconic street artist’s needs.
Older sneakerheads will remember that Nike originally worked with Futura and Stash (another legendary street artist) on a number of Nike SB sneakers back in the mid 2000s, so the move by Converse isn’t unprecedented.
The Futura x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II releases on February 1 at specialty retailers, Converse stores and online at Converse.com.
