It's the 45th birthday of one of the all-time greats, may he Rest in Peace. In his honor, let's take it back West for this TBT with his first big hit, already coming with God-level bars at the time. "I Get Around" was released in the summer of '93, and it's still hot 23 summers later. It makes one wanna stock up the party supplies and have a throwdown by the pool, as seen in the video, which is just as classic as the song itself. It won't be as easy as Pac makes it look, but getting a playlist together with this and maybe "California Love" or "To Live & Die in LA" is a good start.
"I Get Around" features Shock G and Money-B of Digital Underground, the group that first gave Pac a platform. It's a reminder that the best West Coast classics never get old, especially around this time of year, and the song also fits right in with the LA renaissance that's been vibrant for a few years now -- largely because the city's top acts have managed to incorporate the sounds of the old into their innovative palettes. One can hear a lot of Pac's influence in the evolution of Bompton's own YG, who just dropped a blassic-sounding record that the unforgettable fallen soldier most definitely would've enjoyed.

And ain't no need in being greedy
If you wanna see me
Dial the beeper, baby, when you need me
And I'll be there in a jiffy
