Smoke DZA and ASAP Rocky are both Harlem representers, and on Smoke's new project, Don't Pass Trump The Blunt, the sequel to his 2010 breakthrough, George Kush Da Button, they've come together on a record that finds the overlap in their sound. 183rd provides an unconventionally looped string sample, which creates a swaying feel to the record as it crashes over and beyond the 4/4 drums. It falls somewhere between Rocky's ALLA collaborations with Dangermouse, and DZA's hazy New York grit. Rocky comes through with a hook that's equal parts Max B and Wiz Khalifa, before he brings things into his precise, pointed rap style. Meanwhile, DZA reminds us that he's been fine-tuning his perfectly effortless style since he first hinted at his potential on George Kush in 2010.
