While the epicenter of jazz-hip hop fusion is currently located in Los Angeles, we should not ignore contributions to the genre from other parts of the country. This morning, Detroit producer Black Milk released The Rebellion Sessions with his three-piece band Nat Turner, comprised of Aaron “Ab” Abernathy on keys, Malik Hunter on bass, and Zebulun “Z” Horton on drums.
The 10-track project, recorded over the course of one week in Dallas, is comprised of 10 buttery smooth instrumentals that explore the intersection of jazz, funk, hip hop, and soul. Miles Davis would be proud.
