It's once again Halloween: That time of year when kids hustle for candy, grown folks hit up parties and "slutty" is considered politically correct. Hallow's Eve is also associated with masked serial killers and gratuitous violence, so what better way for HNHH to usher in the holiday than by throwing together a list of hip hop's most disturbing and murderous bars?
Before flipping through this list, we recommend setting that plate of spaghetti aside and having a vomit bag handy. You have been warned.
Big Lurch - "I Did It To You!"
"I'll make you play tug of war with barb wire
Put salt on your wounds, gas on your clothes, and start a fire
Let it burn for two minutes and put it out
Take the puss out your wounds and put that shit up in your mouth"
Most rappers pen violent lyrics as part of a fictional narrative - usually to reinforce their machismo - but some actually speak from personal experience. Enter Big Lurch, a Texas emcee who, back in 2002, murdered a 21 year-old woman in Los Angeles. To make matters worse, the victim's chest was split open and pieces of her lungs were found in Lurch's stomach. He is currently serving a life sentence, a far cry from his burgeoning 90's rap career that included collaborations with E-40, Too $hort and Mac Dre.
Necro - "Dead Body Disposal"
"You could hang a fuck upside down in ya tub
And slit his throat from ear to ear to remove a large amount of blood
Most of it'll gush on its own at once
But to get that last couple of pints drained work his arms like pumps"
Need some pointers on how to effectively dispose of a corpse? No worries, just slap Necro's "Dead Body Disposal" and take notes. The Brooklyn Native and younger brother of Ill Bill went above and beyond on this joint, literally spewing a Dead Body 101 bullet-list with no effs given. Necro covers all the bases; from what tools to use, to avoiding suspicion from the neighbors.
Geto Boys - "Assassins"
"I dug between the chair, and whipped out the machete
She screamed, I sliced her up until her guts were like spaghetti
A maniac, I stabbed the girl in her tits
And to stop her nerves from jumpin I just cut her to bits"
Hardcore Southern hip hop pioneers Geto Boys have never shied away from controversial lyrics, and "Assassins" is no exception. The gruesome track depicts the murders of a priest, a hitchhiker, and even a teacher - who offers to put A's and B's on Johnny C's report card, but to no avail. Iconic Geto Boys member Bushwick Bill was shot in the eye a couple years after the release of their self-titled debut album; unsurprisingly, the group took a picture at the hospital - with Bill sans eye patch - and used it as their next album cover.
Brotha Lynch Hung - "Return Of Da Baby Killa"
"Nigga, what? You ain't even seen me in my prime
Eatin' baby brains, baby veins, baby spines
I know they be cryin' when I'm cuttin' off the neck
I'm peelin' off the skin for some bacon-fried croquettes"
We intentionally placed this heartwarming track later in the countdown - just in case you were eating a delicious meal or are a little on the squeamish side. Seriously though, it's hard to believe Brotha Lynch dropped this joint back in 1995. There are rappers now and rappers 50 years from now who will not possess the gall and/or questionable moral compass to make songs about murking babies. Out of pocket!
X-Raided - "Bitch Killa"
X-Raided - "Bitch Killa"
"My hands was bleeding, I was squeezing trigger hella tight
Like twenty shells I let her have it to the face
When smoke cleared there wasn't a motherfucking trace
Where was this bitch? She disappeared like great Houdini
Against the wall was something sicker than zucchini
I blew her up in bits and bits, her face was gone
My dick was raw and nibbled to the bone"
Like Big Lurch, X-Raided is yet another rapper whose propensity for violent bars was indicative of more serious issues. "Bitch Killa" is one of many graphic X-Raided tracks that he released before going to prison for a gang-related homicide. Also, X and Brotha Lynch Hung both hail from Sacramento, CA. Apparently, Sac-Town in the 90's was not the place to be.
Ganksta N-I-P - "Horror Movie Rap"
"Some say I'm insane cause I married a dead horse
It's Christmas time - Happy New Year G
A dead pig's head makes a good-ass Christmas tree
Kill a nigga for a measly-ass nickel
Frozen blood on a stick, equals strawberry popsicles"
Now that we've grossed everyone out with hip hop's most disturbing lyrics - splattered brains, baby eating, corpse disposal, the works - let's tone things down a little bit with some Ganksta N-I-P. On his Halloween-friendly cut "Horror Movie Rap," the hard-hitting early-90's emcee makes some violent and disturbing statements, but they (hilariously) come up short. Yeah, marrying a dead horse and eating blood popsicles don't necessarily evoke the most positive thoughts; however, it feels like N-I-P is trying too hard on this one. It's OK Ganksta, not being a murderer/baby-eater/lung-nibbler is a GOOD thing.
